Dual SIM explained: two lines on one phone

April 30, 2026 · 4 min read

How your home SIM and travel eSIM work side by side, and which settings to check before you fly.

Most eSIM phones support two active lines at once. That's what lets you keep your regular number while using a travel eSIM for data.

Which line does what

Set your home line as the default for calls and texts, and the travel eSIM for mobile data. Your phone labels them; rename them “Home” and “Travel” to avoid mix-ups.

Avoid accidental roaming

Turn off data roaming for your home line, and on iPhone turn off “Allow Cellular Data Switching”. Incoming calls on your home line may still be charged by your carrier when you're abroad.
